Little League Baseball Honors VFW Post

Commander chosen to throw ceremonial first pitch

Woodbridge Little League Baseball in Woodbridge, Virginia, began their 2025 Spring season at the beginning of April. To recognize the long-standing support from VFW Post 7916, Post Commander Jeffrey Lett had the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch.

“This is the first year we were honored to throw the first pitch,” said Post member Bob Maggi.

For more than 10 years, the Post has sponsored the little league, with players ranging from three-year-old T-ball to “senior” teams consisting of 15- and 16-year-olds. Many of the players come from military families.

“In addition to sponsoring the teams, we bring pizzas to games, treat them to lunch at Post 7916 and speak with them about our serving experience,” said Maggi.

Each year, the little league plays their home games at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Woodbridge, Virginia. The park consists of multiple baseball fields with varying sizes for each age range of the little league, hiking trails and even a skate park.

Prince William County Sheriff’s Department Color Guard and Prince William County Firemen also attended the first pitch ceremony, giving out high-fives to players along the first base line.

Officially established in 1946, the Post will be celebrating its 79th anniversary this year. For the past eight years in a row, the Post has been awarded the All-American status.

Along with supporting the little league, the Post has assisted the community by helping restore Occoquan Meadow Cemetery earlier in May.

VFW Post 7916 is looking forward to another championship season from the Woodbridge Little League.
