D.W. “Bill” Miles served in the Army for 28 years and is now a member of Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720. The Des Moines, Iowa, native currently lives in Clarksville, Georgia.
Miles is #StillServing his veteran community by representing the VFW in a variety of leadership positions at the Post, District and Department levels. As the Post service officer, Miles assists his community in any way he can. He says his best memories are the countless smiles, hugs and kind words he receives as thanks.
“On two occasions,” said the Gold Legacy Life member. “I was able to identify an individual in crisis and get them assistance. I’ve seen lives change from the help we provided. Our Post and Auxiliary do a great job.”
In his free time, Miles volunteers to help veterans in his town who need specific assistance.
“I’ve helped build wheelchair ramps, power chairs and other accessibility devices for some of the older veterans, and we regularly assist homeless veterans in our community,” he said. “Sometimes I’m able to take disabled veterans hunting and fishing. It’s a great way to get to know them.”
