Established in 2014 through a strong relationship with Sport Clips Haircuts, the Help A Hero Scholarship was created to help ease the financial burden service members and veterans face when achieving their post-secondary educational goals.
“Every year we hear from student veterans whose education benefits have run out before they’ve earned their degree,” said VFW National Commander Tim Borland. “This scholarship allows us the opportunity to provide them with real assistance, and ensure they achieve success in their post-military careers.”
“When we established this scholarship program nearly ten years ago, we knew it was something special, but I don’t think we realized the impact it would have on so many veterans and service members,” said Gordon Logan, Air Force veteran, VFW Life member and founder and chairman of Sport Clips. “These scholarships enable veterans to achieve the education they need for their career goals without excessive student debt. Sport Clips is proud to sponsor this program with the VFW Foundation to express our gratitude for the sacrifices our veterans have made for us.”
The Help A Hero Scholarship is solely funded through donations from generous Sport Clips team members, clients, individual supporters and corporate sponsors. To date, the Help A Hero Scholarship program has awarded more than $11.4 million in scholarships to nearly 2,400 student veterans. Applications for the spring 2023 semester are currently being accepted. To find out more on the Help A Hero scholarship or to apply, visit vfw.org/Scholarship.
