VFW Post 3396 in Sparks, Nevada, recently celebrated their 80th anniversary and eight decades of serving veterans and their community.
Post 3396 is committed to suicide prevention and awareness and works with the Nevada Department of Veterans Services and the Change Direction campaign. This past year, they had more than 30 people attend Change Direction Day which included a two-mile walk/run to promote physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Members’ efforts to care for fellow veterans and their families have raised nearly $150 for gold star flags and banners; more than $17,500 for a variety of veteran programs and $1,500 specifically for veterans in need. Post 3396 also adopted a Nevada National Guard unit to support service members in the area, donated needed resources to local teachers and held a D-Day walk event to remember the fallen and honor our nation’s heroes.
Through donations and a partnership, the Post supports the mission of Project Recover to locate and recognize Americans missing in action. One of the Post’s members, Jesse Tiffany, is in the midst of a cross-country motorcycle ride to bring attention to service members who remain unaccounted for and what that means for their families. So far, he’s helped raise $4,000 for Project Recover. Tiffany is documenting his journey and sharing information through videos on the Post 3396 YouTube channel.
