What Makes You Eligible? 

You can join the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States if you have served honorably or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces in a war, campaign, expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters, verified by any of the following:

  • An authorized campaign or expeditionary medal, ribbon, badge, or insignia (see the full list here)
  • Received Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay
  • Served 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days in Korea

This information is usually available on your DD-214 or in your personnel record. You can contact the National Personnel Records Center online or at 314.801.0800 to request more information. 

If you are not eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars but you have a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling or spouse who would be eligible then you may apply for membership in the VFW Auxiliary. You can learn more at vfwauxiliary.org.
