VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa, Kansas, recently wrapped up one of its annual fundraisers in June – a car show featuring everything from restored 1940s and 50s cars and bikes to restored WWII-era Jeeps.
This year marks the seventh annual fundraiser the Post has held, with each year raising close to $1,000. Participants are encouraged to bring any kind of car they wish, and the registration fee is $20.
“It takes a considerable amount of teamwork,” said organizer and VFW Post 7397 member Chris Stergos, when asked about the process of setting up the event.
The car show is held behind the Post building, with bikes and vendors taking up a portion of the back parking lot and cars being parked out in the field. Awards are also given out to participants.
The event is open to the public, and members of the local community are invited to bring in their vintage cars.
“We invite everyone with two, three, four or more wheels,” Stergos said. “Roughly half of all contestants and visiting guests are from the public.”
VFW Post 7397 holds other fundraisers, such as a monthly steak night at the Post and poker tournaments. The Post also assists in local holiday events.
