Veteran Cherishes Newfound Freedom

The VFW's Unmet Needs program helped Navy veteran Pamela Murray feel safe in her backyard again

Like so many others in her family, Pamela Murray felt a calling to serve and joined the Navy.

“Patriotism is a big focus for us,” she said. “Six generations of my family have served.”

Murray has been stationed around the world, including in Hawaii, Bermuda and Italy. Today, she is a member of the VFW and has a VA disability rating of 100%.

She reached out to a different organization for help and was directed to the VFW’s Unmet Needs program. Murray was pleased with the easy application process.

“I had a great counselor who walked me through it,” she said.

Murray used the grant to have necessary home repairs made.

“Now I can feel safe using my backyard,” she said. “I’d like to thank the VFW for granting me this extra freedom.”

Murray realizes that the assistance was made possible by VFW donors. She hopes others who are considering offering support do so.

“Please donate,” she said. “There are so many service members who can use your help.”
