VFW Post 1018 in Boston, Massachusetts, had the special honor of helping VFW Commander-in-Chief Hal Roesch receive his COVID-19 vaccine.
In February and March, the Post hosted clinics for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines through a partnership with the VA Boston Healthcare System to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to eligible veterans. The March event coincided with a visit from Commander Roesch, and the members of the Post are very proud that they were able to be a part of seeing him and other veterans get vaccinated.
This is one of many ways Post 1018 has provided assistance during the pandemic. For more than a year now, the Post has stayed on the front lines to serve people in their community and throughout the state.
In spring 2020, Post 1018 was one of several VFW Posts that served as collection points for donated personal protective equipment (PPE). This supported a collaboration between the VFW Department of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. It then enabled the Massachusetts National Guard to more easily get PPE to first responders and medical personnel across the state.
Post 1018 also has conducted food distribution events sponsored by the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation and blood drives for the American Red Cross. The members of Post 1018 are always ready to answer the call of duty to ensure fellow veterans and citizens have needs met in a challenging time.
