VFW Foundation Community Service Grant Helps Post to Support Disabled Children

Multi-purpose playground will provide lasting entertainment

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The members of Ban Chang VFW Post 12146, located in Thailand, are no strangers to giving back to their community. For years, they’ve supported various local charities including the Boon Chu Home for Disabled Children, an orphanage and daycare center in Bangkok, Thailand, that provides care for severely disabled children.VFW Foundation Community Service Grant Helps Post

Often volunteering personal time to help maintain the orphanage’s grounds, members of the Post have even enlisted the help of deployed active-duty sailors to assist in painting, general clean up and transferring storage facilities for the orphanage.

The size and estimated cost of VFW Post 12146’s next project – a concrete multi-purpose playground for the children – left members scrambling to raise the necessary funds. That’s where the VFW Foundation Community Service Grant stepped in.

Paired with the donations VFW Post 12146 was able to raise, a $1,000 VFW Foundation Community Service Grant ensured that their playground project came to life. In a matter of weeks, VFW Post 12146 was able to construct a much-needed playground with two basketball backboards, nets and hoops that are sure to provide the children with a fun and open area to run, play and enjoy.

The VFW Foundation Community Service Grant was designed to help VFW Posts and their Auxiliaries succeed in providing the vital support local communities, America’s heroes and their families all deserve. Available to any VFW Post or Auxiliary, the grant will provide up to $1,000 for performing important and needed qualifying outreach projects in the community.
